A German Journalist talks about Sanfermines
“Germans think that Sanfermines is only about the running of the bulls,” insisted Alfred Diebold, 59-years-old, from Berlin. Diebold is a writer and photographer for Heidenheimer Zeitung magazine and this was his first time in Pamplona.
“We think that a lot of Americans and and English young people run the encierro and get hurt, but that´s what we see in the Spanish press. There really is no knowledge out there about Sanfermines. I couldn´t even find Hemingway´s book, “Fiesta here in Pamplona. ”
Diebold described the Oktoberfest as being less a family fiesta than Sanfermines. ”People drink beer and come and go under tents.”
What this German journalist enjoyed the most was seeing how much fun there was for everyone. The worst, in his opinion, had to do with the prices of food in the bars, cafés and restaurants. In any case, Diebold is looking forward to returning to Sanfermines next year, after reading more about the fiesta.
