More than 400 journalists from ten countries have been accredited to inform about San Fermín 2017
From July 1 to July 14 the International Press Office (OIP) will be open to journalists from all over the world in the Palacio de Congresos y Auditorio Baluarte.
The OIP processes this year a total of 680 passes for the Encierro, the Chupinazo and the Pobre de Mí, applied for by journalists who work for 130 media companies, such as news agencies, televisions, radios, written press or free-lance. In addition to national media, journalists have been accredited from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Japan, Turkey, Colombia, Belgium, Holland and Egypt.
In some cases, coverage is worldwide such as with agencies that send several photographers to cover the fiestas. The act that most attention draws is the Encierro with 398 people accredited from 130 media businesses.
Other 179 professionals from 51 media companies will inform on the Chupinazo from the Casa Consistorial or from Casa Seminario. Lastly, for the Pobre de Mí, 103 people are accredited from 38 media.
This morning, celebrating the opening of the OIP in Baluarte, Ana Ollo, consejera de Relaciones Ciudadanas e Institucionales of the Government of Navarra, accompanied by the president of the Association of Journalists of Navarra, Patxi Pérez; the director general of communication of the Government of Navarra, Pello Pellejero and Esperanza Soroa, director of communication.
The Consejera Ollo thanked the OIP for their work during 17 years with attention to the media, and, especially the manner of the OIP to present our fiesta with the strategy of “defending” Sanfermines as it really is. She also underlined the increase of the part of the budget for the OIP in an intent to combine communication between the Department of Tourism and the Town Hall and monitor this year the social networks. The president of the Association of Journalists of Navarra, Patxi Pérez spoke of his desire to continue advancing in our goal to have an permanent OIP.
Nine Journalists and more functions
Throughout these days, the OIP becomes a meeting place for professionals of communication from all over the world where they have a space to work and a team of nine journalists to help them with different questions related to the fiestas of San Fermín. In addition to the management of accreditations, informative material is also available, such as the Guide of San Fermín 2017, information on the fight against sexual aggression, maps and more information for tourists.
Thanks to the collaboration of the Government of Navarra, the Town Hall and the Association of Journalists of Navarra, since 2000, the OIP has continued to increase its functions in order to offer better service to the media. Towards this cause the Government has destined in this edition 30,000 euros and the Town Hall, 5,000 euros.
This year five journalists have been working since the month of May to emphasize and reinforce the image of an open, welcoming city with a wide programme for fiestas in which everyone can enjoy Sanfermines with respect for all. Four more journalists joined the team from July 1 to July 14 to attend to more than 400 journalists and accredited photographers. In addition, this year for the first time the OIP is carrying out a system of monitoring to evaluate the impact of Sanfermines on social networks. The institutions are aware of some non-conventional media giving negative images of the fiesta and are working on ways of combating this and giving Sanfermines the positive imagen it deserves.
The International Office of Press,located on the basement floor of the Palacio de Congresos y Auditorio Baluarte de Pamplona has a wide space to work in, with a high speed internet to make sure documents such as photos or videos, etc. arrive at their destination. There is also a Wifi connection for cell phones and a wide screen for watching the encierro. Professionals can also use lockers.

Óscar J. Barroso, winner of the XII Competition of Photography of the Encierro
Patxi Pérez, president of the Association of Journalists of Navarra has given out the names of the winners of the VII International Contest of Photography of the Encierro for Professionals Accredited to work prize. The prize Town Hall of Pamplona this year is in two categories:
The winning photo corresponds to the stretch of the Bajada de Callejón, whose author is Öscar J. Barroso. This prize is for 1,000 euros and a cobblestone, taken from the same stretch of the encierro.
The second photo classified corresponds to the stretch of Mercaderes whose author is Mikel Goñi. The prize is for 500 euros.
Other photo winners in the 10 stretches of the Encierro were also presented, with no prize for the stretches of Telefónica and Plaza de Toros. The winners are José Ángel Ayerra, Marta Roca, Mikel Goñi, Mikel Cía, Alejandro Navarro, Sergio Gago, Óscar J. Barroso and David González del Campo. These prizes also go with a part of a post of the fence of the Encierro and a bottle magnum 150 Anniversary of Bodegas Chivite.
