Government Representatives Visit the OIP
On July 2 the Oficina Internacional de Prensa de San Fermín was visited by representatives of the three entities responsible for organization: the acting Councilwoman, for Relaciones Ciudadanas e institucionales in the Government of Navarra, Ana Ollo, accompanied by the Director of Communication, Pello Pellejero; the special Councilwoman of Tourism from the Town Hall, Carmen Alba, accompanied by the Director of Tourism in the Town Hall, Silvia Azpilicueta; Patxi Pérez, president of the Association of Journalists of Navarra and Miguel Moreno from the Association of Journalists of Navarra.
Carmen Alba informed those present of the data surrounding the journalists who are coming this year to write about Sanfermines. She praised the OIP and its work “because the role of journalists is of extreme importance”.
The Councilwoman Ana Ollo congratulated the Association of Journalists of Navarra for its illusion and work at making the fiesta of Sanfermines more visible. She also spoke of the campaign of Tourism for the government, “Not only a scarf”.
Patxi Pérez, president of the Association of Journalists of Navarra, spoke directly to the government and Town Hall representatives, stating that “The OIP needs a permanent office in a central part of the city to continue developing its work”. During these past years, the OIP has demonstrated its worth before, during and after the fiesta. He added that in 2020 the OIP celebrates its 20th anniversary and “ in spite of being grateful for the installations that Baluarte offers, we need a permanent office to avoid carrying every year our computers and other material from the office of the Association to Baluarte. The OIP could be open during more months of the year and not only during Sanfermines but also during festivals, the Way to Santiago, cultural and sport activities that promote our Community even more”.
The OIP or Office of International Press for Sanfermines is distributing 2,450 passes – accreditations for the Encierros, the Chupinazo and the “Pobre de mí”. These accreditations are decided upon by the Town Hall. The total is 121 communication media for Sanfermines 2019 among news agencies, televisions, radios, press and other projects.
By countries, journalists from the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Mexico, Germany, Brazil, Russia, Cuba and South Korea have been accredited as well as from Spain.
Among some of the most interesting projects in 2019 are those from countries like Japan and Russia. The main public company for radio and television from Japan, NHK, is going to film a special program for national television. In addition, the leading Russian channel for tourism and trips will send teams for articles about the Encierros.
The popular Encierro has 389 accredited journalists from 121 medios. Other 160 professionals from 40 medias will cover the Chupinazo from the Town Hall or from the Casa Seminario. Lastly, for the Pobre de Mí, 90 have been accredited from 37 medias. Each accreditation is personal, only for the days that figure on the ID and for the three designated acts from the Town Hall.
From the first of July until the 14th, the OIP will be open and attending accredited journalists and all others who visit us for information on Sanfermines in Baluate. The budget for the OIP of 2019 is 35,000 euros. The Government Navarra – 30,000 and the Town Hall of Pamplona, 5,000.
Ten journalists are working in this 19th edition of the OIP – in person, by email or telephone. Another function of the OIP is to serve as a liaison between journalists who wish to interview those in hospital due to injuries in the Encierro. The Government of Navarra and the Town Hall of Pamplona have also provided the OIP with a Basic Guide of Sanfermines 2019, maps, fiesta programs, material on sexist aggression and abundant information for tourists on Pamplona and Navarra in different languages.
The installations of the OIP are on -1 floor del Palacio de Congresos y Auditorio Baluarte of Pamplona. There are areas for visiting journalists to visit and work with a connection to high speed internet to be able to transmit documentation such as photos, videos, etc. There is also wifi for cell phones and a screen where the running of the bulls can be watched. Lockers are available, too.
