Homage to Daniel Jimeno, last victim in the encierro
Homage will be paid to Daniel Jimeno, the last runner to die in an encierro, on Tuesday at 7:30 am. The Mayor of Pamplona, Enrique Maya and Daniel´s father, Juan Antonio Jimeno, will place flowers on the barricade in the Telefónica stretch where Daniel Jimeno was gored to death on July 10, 2009.
A native of Alcallá de Henares, Daniel Jimeno was one of the regulars in the encierro, a part of Sanfermines he truly loved. The bull, “Capuchino”, from the Jandilla ranch gored him in the neck in the Telefónica stretch when the young man tried to escape through the barricades to safety after running a few metros.
In the first anniversary of his death, the mayor at that time, Yolanda Barcina, and Daniel´s father also paid homage to Daniel moments before the start of the encierro.
