Preparations underway setting up wooden barricades for the Running of the Bulls
Carpenters from Hermanos Aldaz in Puente la Reina have begun setting up barricades for the “encierro” or running of the bulls as they have done since 1992.
On the first of June, four carpenters from Hermanos Aldaz began the installation of the barricades, beginning at the corrals in Santo Domingo, a space where, starting this year, these fences will be permanent for the delight of tourists wishing to take photographs. The work will continue along the 848.6 metres of the “encierro” until July 6. On the morning of July 6, when no public transportation is permitted along the route, the structures will be in place along the streets of Amaya and Estafeta.
The carpenters use 4,000 pieces of wood, and following a code of numbers and letters situate 900 posts to sustain the 2,700 boards needed for protection along the runway. They also set up 70 doors and reinforce the double barricades with 120 boards. Since 2012 all this material is stored during the year in Corralillos in a space of 300 square metres. The carpenters check the state of each piece to be used, and every element substituted is replaced by a similar one of wood certified by the PEFC.
